- Where is the office located?
- The office is located at 2500 Crosspark Rd in Coralville. We are directly across the street from University of Iowa Bioventure building. As you enter the lobby, take the elevated on the right side to the 2nd floor and go to Suite W230.
- What are the office hours and what should I do if I am calling after hours with an urgent problem?
- The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The office is closed on the following holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. If you are calling after business hours and you feel as if it is an emergency you should report to the Mercy Hospital Emergency Department where you will receive the most prompt attention. Phone messages are NOT checked during the evening or weekend so all calls will be returned the following business day.
- What can be expected at a first visit to the office?
- A complete set of pulmonary function tests are ordered for all new patients. These tests normally take between 30-45 minutes. Immediately following the testing the patient will be seen by either the physician or physician assistant. Please keep in mind that first appointments normally take longer than subsequent appointments so extra time should be allowed.
- Why do we repeat pulmonary function testing on patients?
- Pulmonary function test results are very important in your treatment. They are used as a way to monitor progress and to determine if your medications are helping.
- My prescriptions are too expensive. Is there anything I can do?
- If you are having a hard time affording your medications please discuss the issue with the doctor at your visit. There are patient assistance programs available for some of the commonly used medications. Please do not discontinue or decrease a medication without first discussing with your physician.
- What is CPAP and BiPAP?
- CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. BiPAP stands for Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure. CPAP and BiPAP are a form of treatment for sleep apnea in which it provides a constant flow of pressure to keep your airway open while you are sleeping. There are several mask options available to try so that the patient may find the most comfortable mask for them.
- Why am I getting a sore on my nose from my CPAP mask?
- If you have problems with discomfort from your mask you should contact your medical equipment company. You may be fastening your mask too tightly or the mask may not be the right fit for you.
- How often can I get a new CPAP mask?
- Insurance will cover a new mask for you every three months. If you need a mask replaced you should contact your medical equipment company.
- What is a physician assistant (PA)?
- A trained, licensed practitioner who works under the supervision of a physician and can see patients and write prescriptions independently.
- Do you accept Medicaid patients?
- We currently accept Medicaid patients if they are referred by another physician.
- How often can I receive replacement components for my CPAP/BIPAP system?
- Typically medicare and commercial insurance will cover replacement supplies for your CPAP/BIPAP in the following time table: 1 per 3 months for nasal mask or full face mask
2 per month for nasal mask or full face mask cushion only
2 per month for nasal pillows
1 per 6 months for headgear
1 per 6 months for chinstrap
1 per 3 months for tubing
